This building dates back to 1903-1904 when it was built for Electra Waggoner Wharton, daughter of wealthy rancher and oilman William “Tom” Waggoner and his wife Ella. The home is now available for private events and tours. Some say that after its renovations in the 1970s is when some spirits were awakened. Two apparitions began to appear in the house, one was that of a woman who shows up on the grand staircase landing and the other is of a man wearing tennis clothing with a handlebar mustache. Phantom music has also been heard coming from the ballroom and voices and footsteps have been heard in this spot as well.

  • Cold spots, strange music, and the lady of the house

I worked at Thistle Hill in the late 90s. I was responsible for turning all the lights on in the morning and all the lights off in the evening. Very often I would walk through extremely cold spots in the upper bedrooms and always on the grand staircase landing. There were no vents in these areas to explain the cold air. Often I would hear music downstairs, when we were in the office upstairs, when we knew Noone was downstairs. One night we had girl scout camp out and I chose to stay upstairs working on a paper in the office whilst my co-workers were with the scouts. I heard footsteps coming towards my office and as I peeked out the door towards theater bedroom a woman dressed in a gown went strolling into the bedroom. Needless to say I high-tailed it downstairs with all the girl scouts and my co-workers. My co-worker whispered to me, "You saw her?" I nodded and she confirmed she watched her go from the staircase landing down the hall. I was never so glad for the summer to end and to head back to college.

  • Is it haunted?

When I was a security officer working for Smith Protective in 1989 I was sent to Thistle Hill mansion to make sure that the renovators were not going in to the house because of several valuable antiques that were therein. The workers were to stay outside of the house. My job was to sit in a chair nearest the entrance and make a round of the house every thirty minutes or so both upstairs and downstairs. As I was going upstairs a woman was coming down and as I was going to ask her who she was she asked me "have you seen my husband?" I said "no mam" then I noticed that she had no feet! Her legs just faded into nothing. I stood paralyzed as she walked past me. I immediately turned around and she was gone. I told my dispatcher about it when my shift was over when I turned in my radio. She calmly said " oh that's just the Ghost that haunts the Mansion.
